Tell us which game you're writing about: Counting Mice, Adding Mice or Multiplying Mice. If something isn't working, it also helps to include your device (for example "iPad 10th generation" or "Samsung Galaxy Tab A9"), your iOS or Android version, and the app's version number. In all three games that is shown at the bottom of the Grown-ups screen.

Counting Mice: common questions

How do I get to the grown-up settings?

Tap the gear in the top-left corner. The app asks a multiplication question written out in words, such as "What is seven times six?", and you type the answer on the keypad (42). The question is worded so that pre-readers can't get through by accident. Behind it you'll find sound settings, the difficulty cap, a reset, and our privacy and contact links.

The gear stopped responding.

After three wrong answers at the gate, the gear rests for about a minute and then works again. This keeps a curious child from guessing their way in.

How do I turn the voice or the sound effects off?

Grown-ups screen, under "Sound": switch off "Speech" or "Sound effects". The game is designed to be playable with either or both off.

Can I stop the game from getting harder?

Yes. On the Grown-ups screen, under "Difficulty", set "Highest tier". The tiers are Nibbles (counting 1 to 3), Crumbs (1 to 5), and Slices (1 to 10). The game will not go past the tier you choose.

How do I start over?

Grown-ups screen, "Start from the beginning". The game returns to the first tier and forgets recent rounds. It asks you to confirm first.

Why did the mice run off with the pizza?

After two misses on the same count, the mice from next door come running, grab the pizza, and scamper off. It's slapstick, not a punishment: right after, the app counts the mice together with your child, and tapping the correct number brings a fresh pizza. This "count together" moment is how the game teaches.

Does it need the internet?

No. Counting Mice never connects to the internet, and it works the same on a plane, in the car, or anywhere else.

Does it collect any data?

No. There are no accounts, no analytics, no ads, and no purchases. Read the privacy policy for the full statement.

I'd like to request a feature or report a bug.

Adding Mice: common questions

How do I get to the grown-up settings?

Tap the gear in the top-left corner. Exactly as in Counting Mice, the app asks a multiplication question written out in words, such as "What is seven times six?", and you type the answer on the keypad (42). Behind it you'll find sound settings, the difficulty cap, a reset, and our privacy and contact links. Tapping the gear ends the round in progress; the game starts a fresh round afterwards.

Can I stop the sums from getting bigger?

Yes. On the Grown-ups screen, under "Difficulty", set "Highest tier". The tiers are Hop On (sums to 5, both groups of mice stay visible), Count On (sums to 10, the mice already on the bus are announced and their windows dim so your child counts on from that number), and Full Bus (sums to 20, the bus fills at ten and the rest queue for the next bus). The game will not go past the tier you choose.

Why did the windows go dark?

That is counting on. The driver says how many mice are already on the bus, then their windows dim so your child can start from that number instead of recounting everyone. Tap the bus, or any dimmed window, and the driver repeats the count. In the Hop On tier the windows stay lit.

Why did the bus stall?

After two misses on the same sum, the bus coughs and stalls and everybody climbs out. It's slapstick, not a punishment: the driver counts the first group back on with your child, your child taps each of the other mice as it climbs on, and tapping the glowing number starts the bus again. This "count them back on" moment is how the game teaches.

Where is the mouse who didn't fit?

In the Full Bus tier the bus has ten seats. Once they are full, the rest of the mice line up at the stop with their numbers, so the answer is "ten on the bus and the ones in the queue". After the right answer a second bus arrives to collect them.

How do I start over?

Grown-ups screen, "Start from the beginning". The game returns to the first tier and forgets recent rounds. It asks you to confirm first.

Does it need the internet, and does it collect any data?

No and no. Adding Mice never connects to the internet, has no accounts, no analytics, no ads, and no purchases. Read the privacy policy for the full statement.

Multiplying Mice: common questions

How do I get to the grown-up settings?

Tap the gear in the top-left corner. Exactly as in the other two games, the app asks a multiplication question written out in words, such as "What is seven times six?", and you type the answer on the keypad (42). Behind it you'll find sound settings, the level cap, a reset, and our privacy and contact links.

Can I stop the facts from getting bigger?

Yes. On the Grown-ups screen, under "Difficulty", set "Highest tier". The levels are Level 1 (facts up to 4 × 4, answered on a number strip), Level 2 (up to 8 × 8) and Level 3 (up to 12 × 12), both answered on a number pad. Every fact in a level is equally likely, ones included. The game will not go past the level you choose.

Why did a number pad appear instead of the number tiles?

From Level 2 the answers run past 20, so the strip of tiles is replaced by a pad: type the number and tap the check mark. Delete removes the last digit.

Do we have to tap the tables?

No. Serving the tables is the counting scaffold: each tap lands a pizza and says the running total, "three... six... nine!". A child who already knows the fact can answer straight away.

Why did the bell ring and the pizzas disappear?

That is the first miss. The dinner bell rings, the tables wobble and the pizzas are whisked away, then a friendly hand serves the first table again and your child counts on from there. A right answer now is praised a little more quietly.

Why did the neighbours take the pizzas?

After two misses on the same fact, the neighbours from Counting Mice run through the party and carry off every pizza. It's slapstick, not a punishment: right after, the game counts the mice at one table with your child, your child serves the rest, and giving the right answer brings more pizza. This "count table by table" moment is how the game teaches.

How do I start over?

Grown-ups screen, "Start from the beginning". The game returns to the first level and forgets recent rounds. It asks you to confirm first.

Does it need the internet, and does it collect any data?

No and no. Multiplying Mice never connects to the internet, has no accounts, no analytics, no ads, and no purchases. Read the privacy policy for the full statement.
